A bunny with a big sphere shaped face and an x-shaped nose… but transformed into artistic figures! Miffy is not only for children but also for art lovers.
It has been 60 years since the first book about Miffy was published in 1955. The Miffy Art Parade, a project that honors Miffy, is one of the events which celebrate its 60th anniversary. The project was announced in January 28, 2015 at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. These artistically painted Miffy statues can be found in the Netherlands and Japan.
Dick Bruna, the author of Miffy, was born in 1927 in Utrecht, Netherlands. His family ran a publishing company in which he was supposed to inherit. However, he got a job as a book cover designer and contributed to the success of the Zwarte Beertjes paperback series. His simple graphics were highly praised.
During his family’s holiday, he told his son a story of a little bunny. He drew it as a character – that was how Miffy was born! The books about Miffy were translated into more than 50 languages and loved by people all over the world. Miffy appears on many kinds of products as well.
My favorite Miffy statue is the one in Utrecht designed by Barbara Wijinveld.
